It’s because the skin contains multiple hair follicles and dormant hair follicles begin to grow between the sessions. Follow-up sessions are required to treat newly active follicles.

1.) Pain– As a cooling gel is applied to the targeted surface before the treatment; laser hair removal doesn’t cause any pain. The procedure feels like a rubber band hitting the skin with a heat sensation, causing minimal pain. On the other hand, the electrolysis method is painful as it works by inserting an epilator device into the skin. Also, it removes individual hair from the body, causing a lot of pain.

2.) Time– As hair follicles are removed through tweezers; electrolysis takes more than laser hair removal. It takes 30-60 minutes, whereas laser hair removal treatment completes in only 10-15 minutes.

3.) Area Covered– As the lasers come in different head sizes and emit pulses of light every second, laser hair removal treatment covers a larger surface area. It can be performed on any body part like the face, chin, upper lips, forehead, chest, underarms, thighs, etc. On the other hand, electrolysis cannot be done for a large body surface area. This method is effective for removing small hair-like around the eye region.

4.) Number Of Sessions– Compared to the electrolysis method, laser hair removal requires fewer sessions. Usually, laser hair removal takes about 4 to 8 sessions to get the best results, whereas, an individual has to undergo 30 sessions on the target area where the hair is coarse. 5.) Side-Effects– The side-effects of electrolysis treatment include swelling, redness, more ingrown hair, scabbing, skin drying, and inflammation. And the side effects of laser hair removal are pink skin, swelling, and redness.
